About Ypsi-Arbor American Little League
Ypsi-Arbor American Little League (YALL) serves youth ages 4–15 in the Ypsilanti, Michigan area with no-cut, coed, age-based baseball and softball across T-Ball through Senior divisions. Founded in 1953 as the first chartered Little League in Michigan, YALL is historically known for its role in the 1973 landmark case that opened Little League baseball to girls nationwide. The league operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and ensures every player can participate regardless of financial status.
History
Ypsilanti American Little League was founded in 1953 and is believed to be the first chartered Little League in Michigan. The league gained national attention in 1973 when President William "Bill" Anhut allowed Carolyn King to try out despite Little League International's "No Girls Policy." King earned a starting position on the Orioles ahead of 15 boys, sparking legal battles that ultimately led Little League International to revoke the policy, and by 1975 girls were legally allowed to play Little League baseball nationwide. Today the league—known as "YALL"—serves families across Ypsilanti, Ypsilanti Township, Pittsfield Township, and Ann Arbor, and operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to ensuring no player is turned away due to financial hardship.
