Carrying the torch
I come from a family shaped by youth sports. My grandfather helped start the youth hockey programs in Warroad, Minnesota—a small town that would eventually become known as "Hockeytown USA." He understood that youth sports was about more than winning games. It was about building character.
My father was a district and regional Little League champion in Southern California in the 1950s. Decades later, he'd pass down everything he learned when he coached my brother and me in the '90s. The game changed, but the lessons didn't.
I started coaching toward the end of my college baseball career, volunteering to help young players find the right balance of fun and competition. When my own kids came along, it was never a question—I was going to be there, just like my dad was for me.
I built Fungo because the coaches who show up for our kids deserve better tools than what I had. You're carrying forward something important—whether it's a family tradition or just the belief that kids deserve adults who care. Let us help you do it well.
