About West Portage Little League
West Portage Little League is a youth baseball and softball organization serving the west side of Portage, Michigan, offering programs from T-Ball through Senior League for players of all skill levels. Founded in 1969, the league is dedicated to helping youngsters develop citizenship, discipline, teamwork, and physical well-being, and is perhaps best known regionally for its 1998 Senior League Softball World Series championship.
History
West Portage Little League was founded and chartered in 1969 when the west side of Portage began increasing in population and Portage Northeast Little League was split, forming the third Little League in Portage. The league built its first structure (a concession stand) in 1970. In 1992, continued population growth required another charter split per Little League rules. In 1998, the West Portage Senior League Softball All Stars won the Little League World Series, earning a commemorative road sign in the city of Portage. The league underwent major renovations in 2011-2012, added five new Daktronics scoreboards in 2013, and in October 2023, Mayor Patricia M. Randall signed a proclamation recognizing WPLL's Youth Enrichment and Competitive Success.
