History

Center City Little League was founded on April 17, 1982 by Bernie Sanders and his wife while Bernie was serving as Mayor of Burlington, Vermont. Sanders and two city attorneys launched the inaugural practice for ninety youngsters in the Old North End neighborhood, providing free uniforms and waiving the $2.00 fee for those in need. The league thrived on the dedication of neighborhood volunteers serving as coaches, umpires, and scorekeepers. Now known as Center City Little League (CCLL), the program serves children ages 4-12 at Roosevelt Park, welcoming more than 100 players annually and proudly accepting players of all gender identities, staying true to its founding principles of inclusivity and community.
